The Master Sailmaker's Journey: From the Caribbean to Elite Racing
A Life Forged at Sea
From Nice to the Mar Menor, passing through La Rochelle and the French West Indies, Jean Paul Jacquemin realized early on that sailing was his true calling. Driven by bold ambition, at age 18 he moved to Spain to launch his career in professional sailmaking, co-founding the brand Velas Garfio alongside the legendary Ib Andersen during the 1970s.
Racing Design and International Mastery
His talent was etched into maritime history when he became Vice World Champion in the Mini Ton class (1979) in L'Estartit, proving the superiority of his custom designs. In the 1980s, he honed his technical expertise at Hood Sails headquarters in Cape Cod (Massachusetts). After mastering high-level sailmaking, he returned to Spain as an undisputed industry benchmark and Master Sailmaker.
Konkurranse på høyeste nivå
For å lage de beste seilene må man presse dem til grensen. Jean Paul har konkurrert og testet sine design i de mest prestisjefulle arrangementene: 3/4 Tonn Verdensmesterskap, multiple Copa del Rey-regattaer, Rutas de la Sal og Trofeo Puig de Clásicos, og seilet på en rekke ulike båter og bevist tilpasningsevnen til den tekniske seilmakingen sin.
Fødselen av Jean Paul Sails
I 2019, bestemt på å bevare essensen av nautisk håndverk, grunnla han sammen med sønnen Pablo Jacquemin — ekspert-rigger og eier av Jean Paul Rigging — sitt mest personlige prosjekt. I dag holder far og sønn i live en arv der oppmerksomhet til detaljer og høyytende seil kommer først.
